CeMM PI Laura de Rooij awarded TRANSCAN-3 grant for cancer research project

Congratulations to CeMM PI Laura de Rooij on being awarded a prestigious grant as coordinator of the new Europe-wide project HAVOC — one of just 15 consortia selected under the Transcan-3 Joint Transnational Call 2024!
Cancer remains the second leading cause of death globally, with more than 3.9 million new cases and 1.9 million deaths each year. Through this initiative, the TRANSCAN-3 network is investing €16.7 million to support research that aims to turn cutting-edge science into more effective, personalized cancer treatments — ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
Together with two top experts from Norway and Germany, Laura de Rooij will lead this international effort, which has received approximately €1 million in funding. The HAVOC project aims to develop an in vitro “tumor-on-a-chip” platform that accurately models the complex environment surrounding breast cancer — particularly tumor endothelial cell (TEC) interactions and immune cell dynamics. This innovative model is expected to become a powerful tool for testing anticancer therapies and tailoring treatments to each individual patient.
We look forward to following HAVOC’s progress in shaping the future of cancer care!
