Kickoff meeting

We discuss your project proposal with you in order to assess the feasibility of the project. We support you with your questions regarding sample preparation procedures and statistical considerations. At the end of the meeting we decide together if we continue with a project initiation. In addition, we support and consult your grant applications and provide a letter of support for mass-spectrometric measurements.

Project initiation

Before your sample submission, please register your samples via iLAB (https://eu.ilabsolutions.com/account/login). We will provide you with a cost estimation of your project and agree on a date for submitting your samples. For more information, refer to our FAQ section. If you have any questions or if you experience technical issues, do not hesitate to contact Nara: NMarella[at]cemm.oeaw.ac.at

Perform your experiment

Carefully read our FAQs for MS sample preparation. We provide helpful information about MS-compatible buffer composition and common contaminants. Please find more information about these topics in our FAQ section or contact Miriam Abele.

Sample handover

Samples can be delivered in person during our working hours: Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 16:00 and Fridays from 9:00 to 13:00. We would appreciate it if you contacted us quickly before you came.

Samples that are sent to us via mail should ideally be sent on Monday or Tuesday to ensure delivery within the same week. Please find more information regarding shipment in our FAQ section.

Project processing at the facility

We do our best to keep processing and acquisition times short, but our mass-spectrometers are very sensitive, and troubleshooting or maintenance may delay your project. We are doing our best to deliver results within 4-6 weeks after the sample's arrival. For isobaric labeling (TMT-labeling) or custom assay development (chemical screening, proteomics, metabolomics), the processing time might take longer due to the long sample preparation protocol.

Results communication

Raw data of your samples and quality control samples, information regarding sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis are provided in a summary report. If bioinformatics support was requested, we will add a file with results, figures, and other relevant information. Kindly ask you to tell us upfront. Otherwise, we will discard the samples after the successful data handover.

Sample and data storage

Once we have sent you the raw data files, we will no longer store them at the facility. Optionally, we are communicating the results in another meeting where we will help you understand the data and answer all of the remaining questions. If you want to get the leftover samples back, we kindly ask you to indicate this when handing us the samples over.

Billing

We are billing your project for the consecutive month as your project has finished, and the report has been sent. Our accounting team will get in contact with you, provide all necessary information like PO numbers, and support you with any questions that may arise.

Publication

In the case you want to use your raw files in a publication, please include the following sentence in the acknowledgements: “We thank the Chemical screening/Metabolomics/Proteomics team of the Molecular Discovery Platform at CeMM for mass-spectrometric data acquisition”. If a member or members of the facility team contributed to a project in a way which justifies a co-authorship, we would appreciate to be listed as a co-author. It is a good scientific practice to upload your raw data, experimental design, and processed data results to a public repository like Pride or MassIVE, both partners of the ProteomicsXchange consortium, or MetaboLights. Targeted data analysis with Skyline can be easily published via Panoramaweb.org. There are many more repositories than the ones listed. We will assist you in this process upon request.
