For the Research Report 2025, all CeMM members stepped out of their confined spaces, the laboratories and offices, and closer to society—into the cultural scene. Each research and administration group visited one of Vienna’s most prominent theaters and performance venues. There, the groups took the opportunity to discuss their work, the privilege of working in science, but also the high responsibility that comes along with it and the impact their work can have on medical treatments and people’s health.
The time has come to consider scientific research a legitimate and important part of mainstream civic life and an integral part of culture. The photographer Klaus Pichler and theater artist Wolfgang Kainz worked together on documenting the groups’ conversations in a photo series that also showcases the variety of Vienna’s cultural landscape.
