Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R)

The Human Resources Excellence in Research is an initiative that was started by the European Commission. On 6 September 2022, CeMM’s directors endorsed the 40 principles of The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The code of conduct for Researchers is a set of general principles that ensures that the nature of the relationship between researchers and employers or funders is conducive to successful performance in generating, transferring, sharing and disseminating knowledge and technological development, and to the career development of researchers. The Charter also recognizes the value of all forms of mobility as a means for enhancing the professional development of researchers. The European Charter for Researchers contains a set of 40 principles that cover the following topics:

•            Ethical and Professional aspects in research

•            Recruitment and selection

•            Working conditions and social security

•            Training and development

By endorsing the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, CeMM shows its commitment to its employees and their wellbeing. It shows that CeMM stands for creating a favorable working environment for researchers that ensures their rights and fosters their growth.

Following the endorsement of the European Charter and Code, a gap analysis was conducted to review the degree of implementation of the 40 principles by consulting with representatives of CeMM’s scientific community and key administrative staff.  The results of the gap analysis formed the basis of the HR strategy and action plan, which puts forth key actions for improvement to be implemented from 2023 onwards.
