CeMM celebrated the 10 years of EU-LIFE milestone with our partner institutes! We were delighted to attend the annual EU-LIFE Community Meeting and take part in the 10th Anniversary Conference in Lisbon, Portugal!

From 5 to 6 June 2023, we joined our partners at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia for a productive one-and-a-half-day program. We discussed the highlights and achievements of the EU-LIFE network this year, set priorities for various projects and activities, and agreed on the strategy and position papers for 2023 and the next year. The meeting featured insightful discussions and best-practice sharing within the working groups, covering topics such as science communication, recruitment, gender equality, training, grants, IT, core facilities, and technology transfer.

The meeting was followed by the 'Envisioning the research centers of the future' conference on 6-7 June at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. The event brought together the international scientific community, providing a dynamic platform for scientists, experts from diverse fields, and policymakers to connect, exchange ideas, and engage in thought-provoking discussions on creativity, collaboration, multidisciplinary, and proactivity in science. During the event, we also signed the Charter of Research Institutes, highlighting the importance and impact of life science research, and will proceed with discussions on the ten principles. The 10th Anniversary Conference was a great opportunity to envision an even brighter future for science, and witnessing the immense progress made by EU-LIFE in fostering collaboration, promoting excellence, and advocating for science-driven policies in Europe has been truly inspiring!

EU-LIFE is an alliance of 15 leading research centers in life sciences advocating for excellent research and science policy. Monica Bettencourt-Dias (Director Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia) and Giulio Superti-Furga (Director CeMM) serve as the chair and co-chair of EU-LIFE, respectively. CeMM has been a proud member since the network's creation in 2013.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the EU-LIFE Executive Director, Marta Agostinho, and her team, all working group members and conference participants, the Utopia essay winners, and the directors of our EU-LIFE partner institutes for providing us with an inspiring and fruitful experience. We eagerly anticipate the remarkable accomplishments that lie ahead as we continue to work together toward establishing a strong and innovative research environment in Europe!
