CeMM congratulates the MedUni Vienna on the opening of two new building!
CeMM warmly congratulates the Medical University of Vienna and the Vienna General Hospital on the opening of their Center for Translational Medicine and the Eric Kandel Institute!
On 1 and 2 October 2026, the Medical University of Vienna and its University Hospital (AKH Wien) opened two new research buildings at the MedUni Campus AKH: the Center for Translational Medicine (CTM) and the Eric Kandel Institute – Center for Precision Medicine (CPM).
By providing state-of-the-art facilities for translational and personalized medicine, the new buildings will enable diagnoses, therapies and prevention to be tailored even more precisely to individual patients.
At the opening conference, the Vienna Translational Conference, CeMM Director Maria Rescigno, Benjamin Neel (NYU Grossman School of Medicine), Christoph Huber (Co-founder of BioNTech and member of the University Council of the MedUni Vienna), CeMM Adjunct PI Andreas Bergthaler (MedUni Vienna), and Walter Berger (MedUni Vienna) shared their expertise during the morning session. Maria Rescigno delivered a keynote address titled "Translational Medicine in the Microbiome Era: Are We Still Treating Only the Patient?" and participated in a panel discussion where she shared insights from her research, her experience with patents and entrepreneurship, and her vision for CeMM's future. The panel explored the critical importance of technology transfer offices, spin-offs, and startup ecosystems in advancing translational medicine.
