On 4 October 2024, the CeMM Outing took place. Each year we try to combine social activities with an informative and educational approach.

In times of escalating conflicts in the world, we thought it would be important to reflect on Austrian, European and World history, and went to the Vienna Arsenal which houses the Austrian Museum of Military History. We learned that a multi-nation multi-ethnic multi-religion multi-language empire had a detailed military apparatus over centuries, and wanted to understand how it “slipped” into two major global wars.

Soon we will also have a S.M.A.R.T. Lecture on "World in pieces. Elections, wars, uncertainties" at CeMM by Ivan Krastev, Chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies, Sofia, and Permanent Fellow of the Institute for Human Sciences, IWM Vienna. 

As per tradition the annual CeMM Outing is also used by the new PhD Students to introduce themselves to the CeMM community. They have mastered this in an entertaining and interesting way during lunch at the restaurant Stöckl im Park, Belvedere.

Thank you also to the outing organization team, Stefan Bernhardt, Wolfgang Däuble, Andreas Angermayr, Barbara Bachmann and everyone involved. 

We have a passion for science, and CeMMies work hard. But it is also important to have such team events on a regular basis to strengthen the CeMM community spirit and appreciate the diversity and super-cooperation mode at our institute! It was again an interesting and joyful event.
