CeMM offers a clear and structured career path for Research Technicians, recognizing and supporting professional growth at every stage.
At CeMM, technicians are essential to the success of scientific research, and their career development is taken seriously. The technician career path is divided into four progressive levels based on experience, education, and responsibilities:
Level 1: Entry-Level Technician
Technicians at this stage are just starting out, typically holding a technical degree, bachelor's, master's, or even PhD—often with little to no work experience. This level includes roles such as Laboratory Technician or MDP/NGS Technician.
Level 2: Skilled Technician
With 2 to 4 years of experience—depending on educational background—technicians advance to roles such as Research Technician or MDP/NGS Technologist. They take on greater responsibility and become deeply involved in the daily operations of the lab.
Level 3: Senior Technician
Senior Technicians usually have over 6 years of experience. Titles at this level include Senior Research Technician, Senior MDP/NGS Technologist, or Lab Manager. These professionals take the lead in labs, support training, and often help implement new protocols and processes.
Level 4: Alternative Career Path
This level includes roles like Project Scientist or Head of Facility—positions that reflect leadership and deep technical expertise. Moving to this stage requires demonstrated impact, additional tasks, and supervisor assessment. It is regarded as an alternative career path that blends scientific and technical leadership.
