CeMM has officially endorsed the European Charter for Researchers (formerly the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers) as of 6 September 2022. This important step aligns CeMM with the European Commission’s Human Resources Excellence in Research initiative, which promotes a stimulating and fair work environment for researchers across Europe.
The European Charter for Researchers consists of 20 key principles. These are classified under the following four pillars:
- Ethics, Integrity, Gender and Open Science;
- Researchers’ Assessment, Recruitment and Progression;
- Working Conditions and Practices;
- Research Careers and Talent Development.
By embracing these principles, CeMM demonstrates its strong commitment to fostering a research culture that values integrity, inclusivity, and continuous professional growth. It highlights the importance of researcher mobility and knowledge sharing as essential drivers of scientific innovation and career advancement.
Following the endorsement, CeMM conducted a comprehensive gap analysis involving input from researchers and administrative staff to assess current practices. The findings directly informed a tailored HR strategy and action plan aimed at enhancing institutional policies and implementing improvements from 2023 onward.
In 2025, CeMM underwent an internal review to assess the status of the different actions and to develop new actions based on the needs of the scientific community. Both the initial action plan, our Open, Transparent and Merit Based Recruitment Policy (OTM-R Policy) as well as the internal review with the revised actions can be viewed on this page.
Through the Human Resources Strategy for Researcher (HRS4R), CeMM reinforces its position as a leading research institution that prioritizes the wellbeing, rights, and development of its scientific community.
