SUMMARY:Determinants of response to immune checkpoint blockade
DESCRIPTION:CeMMinar with Alice Kamphorst\n\nTitle: Determinants of respons
 e to immune checkpoint blockade\n\nSpeaker: Alice Kamphorst\n\nAffiliation:
Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai\n\nWhen? 23 November, 2 pm\n\nWher
e? Large seminar room, level 8, CeMM\n\nHosts: Barbara Maier, Clarissa Camp
bell, Georg Stary\n\nBiosketch:\n\nAlice Kamphorst is an immunologist whose
research focuses on how costimulation, cellular interactions, and the micr
oenvironment regulate adaptive immunity, particularly T cell differentiatio
n and responses to cancer immunotherapy. She trained with Michel Nussenzwei
g, studying antigen presentation and the functional specialization of dendr
itic and myeloid cell subsets, and later with Rafi Ahmed, where she conduct
ed extensive research on T cell biology.\n\nHer work has helped define how
dysfunctional PD-1⁺ CD8 T cells can be reinvigorated during immunotherapy.
In a landmark Science study in 2017, she demonstrated that CD28 costimulati
on is required for effective responses to PD-1 blockade. Her independent re
search has since examined how different costimulatory pathways shape progen
itor-exhausted CD8 T cells, including studies published in Science Immunolo
gy and Immunity. Together with collaborators, she also developed uLIPSTIC,
a system for unbiased in vivo labeling of cellular interactions, reported i
n Nature in 2024.\n\nKamphorst also investigates immune responses in hepato
cellular carcinoma, integrating mechanistic studies with patient samples. H
er work has identified T cell populations associated with response to neoad
juvant PD-1 blockade and more recently highlighted an important role for B
cells in sustaining anti-tumor CD4 T cell responses.
