The Metabolomics Facility at CeMM aims to provide the highest quality metabolomics analyses on biological and biomedical research samples to its users. Services include method development for the detection and quantification of novel metabolites, systematic screening of established metabolite classes—including amino acids, central carbon metabolism and TCA cycle metabolites, nucleotides, folates, lipids, and more targeted analyses of selected compounds.

We are committed to the continuous development and optimization of analytical methods to more comprehensively cover the human metabolome, while also minimizing required sample input. Throughout all services, we maintain rigorous standards in data analysis, quantitation, and overall quality assurance.

Biosketch

Miriam Abele holds a bachelor's and master's degree in molecular biotechnology from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). In 2019, Miriam started her PhD at the BayBioMS, the mass-spectrometry core facility at TUM, under the supervision of Dr. Christina Ludwig and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Küster. She investigated proteomics sample preparation procedures and developed new data acquisition methods for bacterial sample types. With these tools in hand, she screened the proteomes of over 300 bacterial species and wrote a novel MS/MS-based bacterial identification algorithm. In 2024, she was promoted as head of bioinformatics at the BayBioMS and supported proteomics and metabolomics projects alike. In 2025, Miriam joined the MDP team in the position as Head of proteomics and metabolomics where she continues her work supporting internal and external research projects with state-of-the-art mass-spectrometry.
